Ep#26 - Raisin' Hell with Burton, Harris, O'Toole, and Reed in the #MeToo Era

Ep#26 - Raisin' Hell with Burton, Harris, O'Toole, and Reed in the #MeToo Era

In the latest episode of Notes From the Back Row, Jenna and Veronica bring the Back Row Book Club to the pod’ with a discussion of Robert Sellers’ Hellraisers–a biography about Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Peter O’Toole, and Oliver Reed. They of course have quite a lot to say about it. On one hand, they love all four of these actors to varying degrees. On the other hand,  how do they come to terms with their drunken and highly abusive legacies? They’re all highly problematic by #MeToo standards, and certainly neither of them would have wanted to deal with these dudes in real life. But in a world of so-called #CancelCulture, is it a truly an all or nothing scenario?

Movie recommendations for each of these wild lads is as follows:

Peter O’Toole: Lawrence of Arabia, The Ruling Class, The Stunt Man

Richard Harris: Red Desert, Camelot

Richard Burton: The Longest Day, Look Back in Anger

Oliver Reed: The Brood, The System

A new episode of
